Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about IQ Tester
About the Test
How accurate is this IQ test?
Our test uses scientifically-designed questions covering pattern recognition, logical reasoning, spatial awareness, and numerical ability. While no online test can replace a professional assessment by a licensed psychologist, our methodology provides a reliable estimate of cognitive ability based on your performance compared to our global user base.
How long does the test take?
The test consists of 25 questions with a 60-second time limit per question. Most users complete it in 15-20 minutes. The time pressure is intentional as it measures quick thinking and cognitive processing speed.
What types of questions are on the test?
Our test includes four categories: Pattern Recognition (visual sequences), Logical Reasoning (deductive problems), Spatial Awareness (3D rotation and visualization), and Numerical Ability (number sequences and math puzzles).
Is this a real IQ test?
IQ Tester is designed for entertainment and educational purposes. While we use cognitive science principles in our test design, only a certified psychologist can administer an official IQ test. Think of our test as a fun way to challenge your brain and compare yourself to others.
Scoring & Results
How is my IQ score calculated?
Your score is calculated server-side using a normalized distribution. We analyze your accuracy, speed, and the difficulty of questions answered correctly. Your performance is compared against our global user base to determine your percentile and estimated IQ on the standard scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15).
What is a good IQ score?
IQ scores follow a bell curve: 85-115 is considered average (68% of population), 115-130 is above average, 130-145 is gifted, and 145+ is highly gifted. About 2% of people score above 130, and only 0.1% score above 145.
Why is my score different from other online tests?
Different tests use different methodologies and question sets. Our scoring is calibrated against a large user base. Some tests may inflate scores for engagement, while we aim for accuracy. Consistency in your scores across multiple attempts is more meaningful than the absolute number.
Can my IQ improve over time?
While your underlying cognitive ability is relatively stable, you can improve your test-taking skills and problem-solving strategies with practice. Regular mental exercises can enhance certain cognitive functions. Track your progress with our daily streaks feature!
Test Rules
Can I retake the test?
You can take one test per day. This ensures fair competition on leaderboards and encourages users to perform their best on each attempt. The 24-hour cooldown also prevents score manipulation through repeated attempts.
What happens if I close the browser during a test?
Your progress is saved, and you can resume from where you left off within a short time window. However, the timer continues running, so we recommend completing the test in one sitting without distractions.
Can I pause the test?
No, once you start a question, the 60-second timer continues. This is by design to measure your quick thinking ability. Make sure you have a quiet, distraction-free environment before starting.
What if I accidentally click the wrong answer?
Once you submit an answer, it cannot be changed. Take your time within the 60-second limit to ensure you're confident in your choice before submitting.
Leaderboards & Competition
How do leaderboards work?
We have multiple leaderboards: Global (all users), Country (users from your country), and Weekly (resets every Monday). Your highest score counts for ranking. You can opt-in or opt-out of public leaderboards at any time.
What is the Top 1% Club?
The Top 1% Club is an exclusive badge for users who score in the top 1 percentile globally. This typically requires a score of 135+ IQ. Members get a special badge displayed on their profile and leaderboard entries.
How often are leaderboards updated?
Leaderboards are updated in real-time. Your new score appears immediately after completing a test. Weekly leaderboards reset every Monday at midnight UTC.
Can I hide my score from leaderboards?
Yes! Go to your Profile settings and toggle off "Show on Leaderboards". Your scores will still be recorded for personal tracking, but won't appear publicly.
Account & Privacy
Do I need an account to take the test?
No! You can take the test anonymously. We create a temporary anonymous account to store your results. However, creating an account lets you track progress across devices, maintain streaks, and appear on leaderboards with your chosen display name.
Is my data secure?
Yes! We use industry-standard encryption and never share your personal information with third parties. Your test answers are processed server-side for security. Read our Privacy Policy for complete details.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile > Settings > Delete Account. This will permanently remove all your data, including scores, streaks, and leaderboard entries. This action cannot be undone.
Can I change my display name?
Yes, you can change your display name once every 30 days through your Profile settings. This helps prevent abuse while allowing legitimate name changes.
